Sometimes there are never ending long rainy periods, and everything seems to be dipped into a greyish soup, and you ask yourself questions, and you ponder about the world. These periods are meant by "why does the rain never end".

Of course we know that in the effect of the climate change several areas of the world don't get enough rain, and the water level drops alarmingly. In these cases rain is needed urgently.

Yet there are times when you are under the strong impression of a long enduring rainy period, which can establish a melancholy atmosphere. A greyish mood can be an anchor point of unusual thoughts and can be very creative. Mostly it is a special and weird time, and also the every day perception is tinted in an unusual colour.

Further more we may consider a more abstract approach to the phenomenon of a permanent rain when thinking of a personal era of outstanding experiences and of unique stories.

The rain is the epitome of what falls on us from above, and to which we are therefore almost defenseless. Faced with this higher fate from heaven, we try to find the best way to deal with and defend ourselves against all of its unpleasant side effects. The rain from above forces us to behave in a certain way, because we need waterproof clothing and umbrellas, and we change our ways.

But the rain that is raining down on us is highly ambivalent: On the one hand, it is uncomfortable and we have to fend off the cold and wet. On the other hand, water is the solvent for life in general. Without water there would be no life, and without enough irrigation flora and fauna could not grow, and we would not have this beautiful, buffered, mild climate.

And so we can see that water is perhaps the most valuable thing on our planet. In this sense, the rain symbolizes the abundance of fertility and life, of diversity and vitality. So the elixir of life drips down on us and we walk wondrously moved under our umbrellas.
