Ohropax: A Tape
1986, Ohropax: 5 songs
1986, Will-Collatz-Project: 5 songs
It must have been 1985 when 3 friends found together just to play music. After some months they were 5 musicians and they also did small performances. For almost a year they had no name. At a live event some vistors and fans called them "Ohropax". This tape was an internal tape only consisting of the typically named songs "first", "second" and "third".
Parallel in 1985 the Will-Collatz-Project advanced to a severe recording project. They created songs using a 4-track tape machine, a small mixer and an analogue drum computer.
Here we provide only short parts of the former songs, and yes, they do not sound very pleasantly, but they're historical.
TR707: First
1988, 13 songs
In spring 1987 Ohropax broke because the musical images of the five members were too different. A core crew of Ohropax continued to visit the rehearsel room - and they became "TR707". The former drummer transformed to a singer and the drums were done by the roland TR-707 machine. Also a new sax- and keyboard player joined.
Inside the booklet we read: "The music will not be appreciated through the intellect alone. It simply needs open ears."
This first tape of "TR707" consisted of live-recordings in the rehearsel room only.
TR707: Leisure Groove Rock
1989, 13 songs
TR-707 were 4 musicians and one drum computer. The later provided the name of the band.
One remarkable performance happened in the "Stadtpark Hamburg" in june 1988 because here they played in front of thousands of visitors.
In the booket of this tape we can read: "The concept of TR707 evolves from the monastery of Leasureburg in 1188 shocking the people of the middle age. This feeling has been revived in 1988 by four suspicious guys creating a sound of unknown wide areas, mysterious rhythms and jazz-funk power."
mayze: first
1990, 7 songs
With a drummer joining the band "TR707" and they changed their name to "mayze". In january 1990 they already recorded 7 songs and presented them in several auditions and concerts.
mayze:
the mystery is still alive
1990, 2 songs
In july 1990 mayze intensively recorded 2 songs in their rehearsal room with an 8-track tape machine. These two songs were:
1. The Magic
2. This Cry
These two songs became their "headliner" in their live sceneries. They put them on their demo tape "The Mystery is still alive".
mayze: woman in red
1990, 13 songs
The whole tape "woman in red" was recorded on the 7th of december 1990 in the "Kulturcafe Aurikelstieg".
The original-recording is badly mixed so that we here present a recording of the title song "woman in red" mayze played days before in the rehearsal room.
mayze: the CD
1989 - 1991, 7 songs
This is a compilation of mayze, maybe the "best of". So it still is "the CD of mayze". All songs have been recorded on a tascam 8-track tape machine.
Mayze developed their unique brittle sound and forced up considerably. Several performances found many listeners. Unfortunately the era of mayze faded in 1992.
